Understanding Puberty: What You Need to Know

by HwangAlex 24 Apr 2023 0 Comments

If you're currently aged between 10 and 14, you might be experiencing puberty, which can be a challenging time. Your body is changing, and you may begin to notice physical changes such as acne and body hair, and girls may begin menstruating. But don't worry, we're here to help you understand what to expect during this time.

Hormones go wild during puberty, which can cause acne breakouts. This is known as hormonal acne, and it usually appears around the lower areas of the face such as the chin. But there are ways to treat it, such as using salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, and keeping your skin hydrated to prevent dryness from the treatment.

Most girls will eventually experience menstruation, so it's important to learn about it now. When the uterus prepares to carry a baby, and the egg isn't fertilized, the uterine lining sheds itself, resulting in a period. There are various products available to keep you leak-free during this time, including pads, tampons, cups, and period underwear, which is an easy transition for young girls who are just starting their periods.

Body Hair

Puberty often leads to the growth of extra hair all over your body, such as on your legs, armpits, and pubic region. The hair may start out light and not very noticeable, but it will become darker as you get older. While many women choose to remove their body hair, it's a personal choice, and there's no health reason to do so.

Growth Spurts

You might notice that you're growing faster during puberty than you did when you were younger. Your hands and feet may get bigger, and your limbs may grow, making you taller in a shorter span of time. Your body might feel awkward for a while during this growth spurt, but soon your body will catch up with itself.

Puberty may seem scary, but before you know it, you'll feel empowered to handle anything that comes your way!
